Dr. Jacqueline Ruben Platenik is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PY8260), licensed to practice in the State of Florida. Dr. Platenik has expertise in individual, couples and family counseling with adolescents and adults, including elderly populations.

Dr. Platenik established her private practice in Florida in 2011, following her employment as a Senior Clinician providing counseling services and clinical supervision of staff and interns at Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Sarasota-Manatee. Dr. Platenik has been licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of Florida since 2011 (PY8260). Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Boston University, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Psychology from Boston University, a second Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology San Diego and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology San Diego at Alliant International University in 2007. Dr. Platenik’s dissertation, completed in 2007, was titled “The Relationship Between Anger and Somatic Symptoms in Mexican and Mexican Americans and Anglo Americans.”

In California, Dr. Platenik was a Registered Psychologist at the San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center where she provided counseling to LGBT youth and adults and HIV-positive clients. Prior to working at the LGBT Community Center, Dr. Platenik completed her post-doctoral internship at San Diego Job Corps counseling adolescents and young adults and assisting in removing mental health barriers to education and employment. In addition, Dr. Platenik was the Clinical Director at Puente de Vida in La Jolla California, a private residential facility providing treatment to clients with severe eating disorders and co-occurring addictions. Dr. Platenik’s pre-doctoral internships were at Calworks Stepforward, where she provided counseling services to Spanish-speaking and bilingual Latina and other minority clients referred for welfare-to-work services and at Springall Academy where she provided counseling services to children and adolescents with learning and developmental disabilities, trauma histories and behavioral problems.

Dr. Platenik was trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Level I for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; is a trained Shoah Foundation Holocaust survivor interviewer, and is a Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) trained rape crisis counselor. She uses Gottman’s method in couples therapy, a system which applies leading-edge, research-based interventions to help improve relationships. Dr. Platenik has been commended for her excellence in accurate diagnosing and believes that proper diagnosis guides treatment. Therefore, Dr. Platenik will work closely with other providers as needed to ensure a holistic approach to treatment. Dr. Platenik integrates cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic and systemic approaches to assist you quickly and effectively.

Dr. Platenik was born in Argentina and lived in Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico before moving to the United States during adolescence and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. In addition to providing counseling sessions in either Spanish or English, Dr. Platenik provides home-visits to clients who are home-bound due to illness on an as-needed basis.
